Hey Sistas , for natural hair it is important that your natural hair stays moisturized, hydrated, and conditioned. Store bought products are great for natural hair but sometime making your own hair mask and conditioners is best. Most of the times the items you need to make your own natural hair masks are normally simple items in your kitchen. Today I am going to make a checklist of things you will need to make a deep conditioning hair mask. 1.      Pure Honey- Honey helps stimulate hair growth and makes your scalp healthy. Honey also helps prevent hair lost. 2.       Pure mayonnaise – Mayonnaise helps revive your hair. It has ingredients that help with treating dry and damaged hair. Egg protein helps with rebuilding damaged hair. Egg also provides your hair with moisture. 4.     O

Nighttime Routine

Hey Sistas, I have a video showing you how I take care of my wig while my natural hair is braided under the wig. It is important to take care of your weave and your natural hair while wearing a wig. I have had this hair for two years but the first time I wore the hair as a sew in. I let a friend make a wig out of it and this is how I have been wearing my hair lately.   At night rime I detangle my hair and add OGX conditioner and water to it.   I mix OGX conditioner and water in a spray bottle and I wet my hair all the way through. After I wet my hair all the way through I comb through it once again to make sure it is all detangled. Next I twist my hair up and I take my wig off at night and place it on a styrofoam wig head to dry overnight. In the morning I wake up put my wig cap on and place my wig on top of the wig cap. I also oil my natural hair at night with Tea Tree Oil to insure my real hair is still getting moisture. This nighttime routine is super easy and it leaves my w

Tribal Braids

Image
Hey sistas, braids have been around for over 5,000 years. Africans made the braid culture popular.   The idea of braids in the African culture helped indicate a persons tribe, wealth, power, and religion.  Braids are a common look especially in African American women. Braids are a good protective hairstyle to help grow your natural hair. Box braids and scalp braids are common but many women are starting to bring back the tribal braids.  Tribal braids give you and Egyptian goddess look. The idea of tribal braids is all in having fun with your braids and being creative. Most people add beads, cuffs, and other hair jewelry to add some flare to their braids. The tribal braids can be worn many ways and are super cute in the summer time.  Tribal braids are more than just a fashion statement. In Africa pattern braids would help identify which tribe the women belonged too. The technique of tribal braiding was passed down from generation to generation as a form of art.  To achiev

Goddess Locs

Image
Hey Sistas, Goddess Locs are a new and trendy look that many women are starting to rock. Goddess Locs are a super sassy protective hairstyle that many natural women are starting to embrace.   Goddess locs gives an illusion that you have real dread locs. The process of Goddess Locs is a little more technical compared to braids or twist. Goddess Locs became popular after seeing celebrities like Rihanna and Meagan Good gracefully wearing them.   The question is exactly how do you get these locs? You start off with freshly washed hair that has been moisturized. You twist your natural hair into small sections adding your choice of synthetic or human hair to each twist for the length. You than wrap the one strand of hair around each twist, working your twist in a downward motion. When you get to the bottom you leave the wavy ends uncovered to give the curly goddess look. For Goddess Locs you can use synthetic or human hair. Synthetic hair is cheaper and is recommended if it i

Successful Wash Day

Image
Hey Sistas, a wash day routine can definitely be a hassle but once you have mastered your wash day it is a breeze. Wash day is a great day to really give your natural hair the well needed love it deserves.   First you will need to gather all of the products that you will need for your natural hair. It is easier to gather all your products at once so everything will be in reach.   Next, let your hair out and comb it out your hair gently to detangle it before your began your wash day process. I prefer washing my hair in the sink but everyone has their own preference.  Put your head under the water so that your hair is completely saturated. Get your shampoo, squeeze the shampoo in your hand and began your wash day process.   Lather the shampoo thoroughly throughout your hair and wash until you feel it is clean. Washing your hair gets rid of all the dirt and product build-up. After washing your hair and letting your hair deep condition for an hour;

Best Oil for Natural Hair

Hey Sistas, many women do the big chop or transition to natural hair and get stuck with the growing process. Personally my hair was at a standstill it would not grow at the speed I wanted it to. I googled ways to help my hair grow; I started using Moroccan oil, Olive oil, and Coconut oil. These oils really helped my hair stay moisturized. My hair can get really dry, so it is really important that I put oils in my hair to keep it moisturized especially in the winter. A hot oil treatment is basically like a deep condition except with oil. Hot oil treatments leave your hair, shiny, healthy, and silky. Hot oil treatments also help with split ends, breakage, and dryness. Moroccan oil/Aragon oil is one of my favorite oils; I normally use this oil when I get a hot oil treatment. The oil is so lightweight and it is all natural. Moroccan oil is made from an Aragon tree fruit and it grows only in Morocco.   Moroccan oil leaves my hair feeling very silky and leaves my hair with a nice luste

Hey Sistas, many girls in college are natural and love their natural hair, but it can definitely be a hassle. There are those day where you just really don’t know what to do with your hair. Many college girls choose to wear protective hairstyles such as; braids, weave, wigs and twist.   Between classes, homework, work, and extra-curricular activities protective hairstyles are easier to maintain. I sat down with Dana Mitchell to talk about her natural hair journey and protective hairstyles. Q: When did you become natural? A: I became natural around 2015. I was tired of my relaxed hair and it was not growing how I wanted it. Q: How has your natural hair journey been? A: My natural hair journey has been great!   I will say going natural was the best thing I could have done. My hair has grown way longer and it is thick and healthier. Q: Did you transition or did you do the big chop? A: I transitioned; I did not have the guts to cut my hair. I was scared I would look fun
