Tribal Braids

Hey sistas, braids have been around for over 5,000 years. Africans made the braid culture popular.  The idea of braids in the African culture helped indicate a persons tribe, wealth, power, and religion.
Braids are a common look especially in African American women. Braids are a good protective hairstyle to help grow your natural hair. Box braids and scalp braids are common but many women are starting to bring back the tribal braids.

Tribal braids give you and Egyptian goddess look. The idea of tribal braids is all in having fun with your braids and being creative. Most people add beads, cuffs, and other hair jewelry to add some flare to their braids. The tribal braids can be worn many ways and are super cute in the summer time.

Tribal braids are more than just a fashion statement. In Africa pattern braids would help identify which tribe the women belonged too. The technique of tribal braiding was passed down from generation to generation as a form of art.

To achieve tribal braids you will want to start off with freshly washed hair. Depending on which tribal braid pattern you choose your hairstyle will differ. For the look the model went for; her stylist cornrowed one braid down the center of her head going straight back. Then her stylist braided the rest going from front to back with add in braid hair.

The braids will feel tight at first because of the tension on your scalp, but it will loosen as time goes on. It is important to make sure you tell the stylist if they are braiding to tight. Your hair will be braided at the scalp and you do not want all that tension on your edges; it may cause damage to your edges. While wearing tribal braids it is important to moisturize your scalp. Any type of oil will help insure your hair is moisturized. I prefer Tea Tree Oil when I wear braids because it smells good and it is light weight oil.

Tribal braids do not last as long as box braids because more of your hair is out in the front. If you have really soft and fine hair the braids may frizz up faster in the front. The tribal braids are super trendy and fashionable. Next time you think about getting braids try the tribal braids. Bye Sistas!
